Supporting the people of Welney since 1661

Welcome to the William Marshall Charity. This website was first launched in 2025 to coincide with the relaunch of the William Marshall Charity – the Welney charity since 1661.

The Charity has a rich and interesting history, more detail of which is available on the History page of this website.

The former Charity, The Charity of William Marshall (202211) has been superseded by a Charitable Incorporated Organisation known as the William Marshall Charity (1206539). During this process the Charity reviewed its Objectives. However, the Charities objectives remain much the same.

How We Help

Our work through grants and almshouses is guided by a deep understanding of the community’s needs and a commitment to making Welney a better place for everyone. We remain dedicated to supporting the well-being of our residents, preserving our village’s heritage, and fostering a thriving and supportive community.

In addition to this it uses its income generated from its agricultural land, investment properties and cash investments to support its grant giving.

The charity is regulated by the Charity Commission and a member of the Almshouse Association.

The charity owns and runs for Almshouses known as ‘Church Cottages’ adjoining the St. Mary’s Church at the centre of the village.

Success Stories

Village Hall Parking

Following the refurbishment of Hurn Drove, we were delighted to receive a grant from the William Marshall Charity - the Welney Charity together with the County Council. Without their support this project would not have been possible and it’s great that we now have a much-improved access to our village hall increasing accessibility & safety for all.
